The Town of Banff is continuously learning about the rich and complex histories of Indigenous peoples in this region and is working to refine how the organization can better understand and acknowledge Indigenous peoples that have and continue to contribute to the area. The area was also used by the Mountain Cree clan of Chief Peechee, and the Dene of the far north and far south. The Bow Valley has also long been important to the Ktunaxa and Secwépemc First Nations who traditionally occupied lands and used the watersheds of the Columbia and Kootenay Rivers and the eastern slopes of the Rockies. These sacred lands are a gathering place for the Niitsitapi from the Blackfoot Confederacy, of whom the Siksika, Kainai, and Piikani First Nations are part the Îyârhe Nakoda of the Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Wesley First Nations the Tsuut’ina First Nation the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region III within the historical Northwest Métis Homeland, and many others whose histories, languages, and cultures continue to enrich our vibrant community. Our Moving on Up - Skills and Drills continues building on the #1 clinic. Tuesdays, Intermediate Clinic for level 3.25 (12:00 to 1:15 pm) This includes the history of pickleball, a continental paddle grip, proper stance and paddle position, court positioning, strategy, and focus on teamwork, court etiquette, and smart, high percentage kitchen line play, serves, return serves, third shot drops. Our journey of learning pickleball from A to Z begins with building a solid FUNdamental foundation. Mondays, Beginners Clinic for levels 2.75 to 3.00 (12:00 to 1:15 pm) There will be 4 players on each court with an instructor or assistant. We will meet at 1 pm by court P15 and play on courts P11, P13, and P15 with 1 instructor and 2 assistants for 12 players. Please bring a paddle with your name and contact information on it, a ball, a name tag, suntan lotion, maybe a cold drink, and a smile! In the event that courts are full, programs may be delayed. Since we cannot reserve courts, these sessions will depend on court availability. Please sign up for only the one level that best describes your playing level. Signups are on PlayTime Scheduler each week. Sessions are run by Chuck Kaspar, PPR Certified Pickleball Instructor, as well as club volunteers. ​ Moving on Up - Skills and Drills (PAPC members only, beginning June 6)Įach week will be a stand-alone clinic, so it will be a week-by-week signup process through PlayTime Scheduler. Upcoming Getting Started sessions will be announced a few days in advance based on weather forecast and availability of volunteers. We regret that we do not have the court capacity to offer these sessions to non-residents, and encourage those who live in other communities to call their recreation departments for information about classes and courts nearby.
